my morning visitor / by Tricia Koning Photo

It's a lovely spring day.  I'm biking to the studio today.  I see a car slowly swerve on the street.  I realize it's swerving for to avoid a hobbling little bird. At first,  I thought it was a downy woodpecker, however, I've been corrected and it is a yellow-bellied Sapsucker, a "cousin to the woodpecker".    I try to shoe it on the side of the street.  I realized this bird has no chance of survival on its own.  My husband tells me about Chicago Bird Collision Monitors.   I've stared at this little beautiful creature for the past hour, and had to pull out my camera.

oh my he is a bit scared, but I actually think he warmed up to me.
